Another Month Down, Forever to Go?

After being super stoked about being in remission back in February, Brenda the Breast Cancer decided to rain on my parade - she's still free floating around in my bloodstream trying to find a new place to take up residence. That sneaky sneaky bitch.

So what does this mean for my treatment? It means that for the time being, I still have to go to the clinic every 3 weeks for treatment. We'll be doing another set of scans in April, as well as another molecular blood test. The goal is to kind of see where I'm at and decide from there.

The treatment that I'm on right now (Enhertu) can be used long-term, i.e., for the rest of my life. I really don't want to do that if I don't have to. But I'm not sure what my other options are at this point. The science around breast cancer treatment is rapidly evolving, so I may be able to change plans in the future based on my needs. Until then, though, I'm kind of stuck.

Other updates:

  • I broke my foot when I tripped getting out of a chair - 5th metatarsal in my right foot. I'll be in the boot for at least 6 weeks.

  • Because I broke my foot in such a silly way, we're doing a bone density scan. Chemo is known to reduce your bone health, and I do have a family history of osteopenia. Better to check it now and start working on a solution than just walking around with a 90+ year old skeleton

  • My heart and lungs seem to be doing okay on treatment - no substantial changes in functionality.

  • The spot on my lung where Brenda had taken up residence previously is dead - will always have a scar, but from the last set of scans, no activity in that area, so that's good news.

  • Bloody noses are becoming a thing for me - the blood thinners I'm on make it super easy for me to get a bloody nose, which can catch me off guard sometimes

  • My fissures appear to have healed up for the most part - thank god. Those are the WORST, and I would only wish them on my worst enemy.

Oh! One more thing!

I have a demo version of my Health Harmony Application that I've been working on available for people to check out. It's not finished yet, but it does showcase some of the concepts and ultimately how I'd like to tackle this problem. You can access it here, and if you have feedback, I'd love to hear about it!

I think that's all for the moment. I'll try to be better about doing updates here.

Love you!

Olivia
